We will have an AEROS winter race here in Slovenia in February.

In February from 24th to 28h we will have a FAI 2 competition here in Slovenia (Kovk, Ajdovscina), the first one in Europe in season 2010. The AEROS winter race is of course sponsored by AEROS and they provided those special prices for the best pilots:
1st price: 1000 EUR cash or credit note for 30% discount when ordering a new Combat
2nd price: 500 EUR cash or credit note for new Viper S harness
3rd price: 300 EUR cash or tailplane
4th-10th place: small prices
We have some major pilots on the list like Manfred Ruhmer, Alex Ploner, Primoz Gricar, Thomas Weissenberger and so on. The competition will be covered with blog and twittering. You can find more info on the home page of the competition at
The area is flyable even now in January. You can see the videos of the area at www.klemencicmatjaz.blogspot.com

Hang Gliding Dealers and Schools
Updated Oz Report web page
Scare <Gerry> writes:
I've done a little reformatting on http://ozreport.com/hgdealers.php. Clicking on a state in the map takes them to the instructor list for that state.
Changed the highlight color for places that scooter tow from red to green, 'cuz the verdict on that method is that it's good, red would imply bad.
Separated out Canada, Mexico / Puerto Rico, and Australia into their own sections.
Made the link underlines lighter, for looks.

Flying at Stanwell
Take the train to hang gliding lessons
(Bald Hill, Stanwell Park, NSW, Australia)
You can live on the Australian east coast, likely in Sydney, and take the train to Stanwell Park to take lessons from Curt Warren at Warren Windsports. You can walk to Curt's. You can walk to Bald Hill from the train station. It's about an hour from Sydney.
There must be some hang gliding schools where you can take a train to the hang gliding school. I did that in 1984 outside of Munich. Hard to even imagine it in the US.
The two students today both took the train (different trains).

Cleaning out the containers
Left over gliders at Quest Air
(Quest Air, Groveland, Florida, USA)
Paul Tjaden <tjadenhors> writes:
We have several gliders stored here at Quest that have been left with us for quite some time and which we no longer have current contact information for the owners. Some of them are not even identified as to who owns them. If any Oz Report readers believe that they own a glider stored here and you have not been contacted by us within the last few months, please get in touch with us at 352-429-0213 or <info>. Any glider left unclaimed by March 1st, 2010 will be considered abandoned and become the property of Quest Air.

Hangdogs
Music for hang glider pilots
http://www.hangdogs.com/whoarethesedogs.htm
Thanks to Adam Palmer
I happened upon an alt-country band with an interesting namesake: “The Hangdogs”. Frankly, the music is interesting. The website too. Anyway, I just thought that the name alone justifies a “look see” from the hang gliding community.

USHPA Regional Director Recall Election
The very first one
(USHPA headquarters, Colorado Springs, CO, USA)
http://ozreport.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=18620
USHPA President, Lisa Tate, writes:
SOP 9.01 (A) provides that a recall is initiated by presenting the USHPA President with a request to initiate a recall. It doesn't require the petitioner to provide the President with a request to initiate a recall prior to gathering signatures in support of that recall effort. As President, I received a formal request for initiation of a recall vote (the initiation of the petition by the petitioner) on Feb. (sic) 24, 2010. Pursuant to the SOP, I forwarded notice of that petition to Bob Kuczewski within one day of my receipt of that petition, well within the 15 days required by the SOP.
SOP 9.02 (B) provides that the petitioner has until 90 days after initiating the petition (defined in 9-02 (A) as making a request to the President of the USHPA for a recall vote) to submit the required signatures in support of the recall petition. The SOP does not require that the petitioner wait until he has initiated the petition before collecting signatures in support of his petition. It merely requires that the required signatures must be submitted by the petitioner to the Executive Committee within 90 days of his initiation of the petition. In this case, the petitioner submitted the required signatures in support of his petition simultaneously with the initiation of his petition.
Even if initiation of the petition had not been defined in SOP 9.01 (A), the earliest date that could otherwise be argued as an initiation date would be the date the first signature was gathered. Since all the signatures were gathered within the last 45 days, even if the SOP had not defined initiation of the petition, all the signatures were submitted well within any 90 day period.
